Shaping a Scalable Platform for Complex Financial Decision-Making

A Strategic Redesign for Scalable Financial Intelligence

This case study documents how A Stronger Idea Design provided senior UX and product design leadership to modernize a mission-critical financial services platform used to analyze, manage, and act on highly complex financial data.

Operating in a highly regulated environment, the platform supported expert users responsible for large-scale fund administration and investment operations. While functionally powerful, the existing experience introduced friction that slowed decision-making, reduced consistency across workflows, and constrained the platform’s ability to scale confidently over time.

The goal was not just a visual refresh. It was to improve clarity, efficiency, and long-term viability without disrupting established processes or introducing compliance risk.

The Challenge

Euvic's client operates at the intersection of scale, regulation, and financial complexity. The platform needed to support expert users managing detailed financial data across multiple teams, jurisdictions, and systems, often under time pressure and strict compliance requirements.

Over time, the experience had accumulated usability friction across critical workflows. Complex tasks required unnecessary cognitive effort. Interfaces lacked consistency. Key information was harder to interpret quickly, increasing the risk of error and slowing expert decision-making.

At this scale, incremental inefficiencies compound. Left unaddressed, these issues posed a growing operational and strategic risk.

The challenge was to significantly improve usability and clarity while preserving trusted workflows, respecting regulatory constraints, and ensuring the platform could scale to support future growth.

Role

A Stronger Idea Design led UX and product design for the engagement, providing senior design leadership across experience strategy, interaction design, and cross-functional alignment.

The work was led by ASID’s founder and senior design lead in close collaboration with Euvic, product owners, and engineering teams. Our role extended beyond interface design to include clarifying requirements, resolving tradeoffs between usability and compliance, and establishing shared patterns that could scale across teams and use cases.

Design acted as a stabilizing force, translating complex financial and regulatory constraints into clear, usable experiences without oversimplifying the underlying data or workflows.

Outcomes and Impact

The redesigned experience focused on clarity, predictability, and confidence.

Strategic use of whitespace, typographic hierarchy, and restrained color helped surface key financial signals without overwhelming users. Navigation and layout patterns were standardized to reduce cognitive switching costs across workflows and modules.

Interaction patterns were redesigned to support both quick validation and deep exploration, allowing users to move fluidly between overview and detail as their tasks required. Complex tables and data-dense views were restructured to improve readability and reduce time spent interpreting information.

The result was an experience that respected the sophistication of expert users while making complex financial data faster to understand and act upon.

Rapid adoption across high-value accounts, onboarding more than 150 funds with assets ranging from $150 million to $20 billion
Significantly reduced time on task for advisors and clients
Increased confidence in day-to-day platform usage across teams
"A Stronger Idea Design brought a rare mix of big-picture thinking and meticulous detail. The design leadership work helped streamline complexity, and the collaborative style made them a trusted partner across the board."

Design Strategy

The design strategy focused on enabling confident decision-making in a complex environment.

Rather than attempting to reduce complexity at the data level, the approach centered on reducing cognitive load for expert users. This meant making relationships clearer, prioritizing information hierarchy, and ensuring that critical signals surfaced at the right moments within multi-step workflows.

Key principles guided the work:

  • Preserve trusted workflows while removing unnecessary friction
  • Improve consistency across interfaces to reduce interpretation errors
  • Support rapid scanning and deep analysis without compromise
  • Build a scalable design foundation aligned with compliance and operational realities

A Modern Platform Built for Scale

Through close collaboration between ASID and Euvic, the Alter Domus platform evolved from a dated, fragmented experience into a coherent, user-centered system designed for scale.

The redesigned experience enables users to navigate complex portfolios, tax lots, and financial data with greater clarity and confidence. By aligning usability improvements with operational and regulatory realities, the platform now better supports expert decision-making while remaining adaptable to future needs.

This engagement demonstrates how senior design leadership can reduce risk, improve efficiency, and create long-term value in complex, regulated enterprise environments.
